7 Things You Need to Eat in Singapore

The cultural diversity of Singaporean cuisine is truly remarkable. There is something for everyone in this food mecca.
Here are 7 things you need to eat when visiting Singapore as of December 2018:

Chicken Rice @ Boon Tong Kee

Boon Tong Kee has multiple locations across Singapore that serves consistently good chicken rice, a very common dish you will probably have at least once during your stay. Come here for a hearty chicken rice meal and order your choice of sides to balance out the flavors.

Kaya Toast @ Toast Box

Start the day off with breakfast at Toast Box, a toast chain that is located all throughout Singapore that specializes in the Kaya toast, a common breakfast item of toast with butter and kaya often accompanied by soft boiled eggs. Season with light soy sauce and ground white pepper to taste.

Pork Noodles @ Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle

Tai Hwa is an inexpensive Michelin star restaurant where you can find some delicious pork noodles - option of dry noodles or noodles in broth. Lines get long but it moves fast.

Chili Crab @ Jumbo Seafood

This is basically Singapore’s national dish so you want to make sure you try this one before you leave. The crab is cooked to perfection in a sweet tomato sauce and you dip deep-fried buns into it. A must.

Block 1206 East Coast Parkway #01-07/08, East Coast Seafood Centre, Singapore 449883

Minced Pork Noodles @ Guan’s Mee Pok

These were honestly the best pork noodles I’ve ever had. The noodles are cooked to al dente perfection and the minced pork had the juiciest flavoring I’ve ever had. They recently opened a new location. You won’t be disappointed.

A Little Bit of Everything @ Albert Food Centre

The hawker centres are a one stop shop where you can check most items off of your list from the laksa to the fried carrot cake, the fishball soup to the nasi lemak, the prawn mee and satays, all the way to the desserts. I was able to consume a very diverse array of options at this particular hawker centre but go to any of the food centres in Singapore and try a bit of everything.

270 Queen Street, Singapore 180270

Ice Cream Sandwich @ Street Vendors

Keep your eyes out for the ice cream uncles with their ice cream carts. You’ll find ice cream sandwiches offered at these carts with a bread or wafer option. The bread might look interesting but if you’re going for the taste, I recommend getting the ice cream sandwich with the wafer. The best flavor? Raspberry ripple. The best part? $1.
